The Search for “The ONE”

Lawton Audio proprietor Mark has a long and abiding fascination with aftermarket audio cables and high-end wires of all kinds. As a certified dues-paid cable nut, he has been through an almost worrying array of audio wires over the years; but in the process, learned a great deal about what is appealing and not appealing about different materials, connectors, designs and construction. He has applied all this collected knowledge in creating our line of headphone cables.

As with all of his mods, Mark approaches audio cables as a devoted, inquisitive listener and music lover first.  It doesn’t matter what the spec sheet or price tag says, what does it sound like? You have to listen.

“I’ve spent time with many different examples of cables made from silver, gold, hybrid rare metals and even carbon fiber, but, on balance, in all my travels, nothing captures that natural full tone like the best examples of good ol’ copper.”

There are many fine audio wires out there. But the world of those that are practical for headphone use and in a

form factor that is suitable not just to be listened to, but worn like a headphone cable is much smaller. The

durability has to be much higher, and the cable has to be able to withstand much more stretching and straining,

coiling and uncoiling, connecting and disconnecting than an ordinary RCA cable for example, which you set once

and forget.  And it has to do all this in a lightweight, comfortable, flexible and attractive package.

For 4+ years, we’ve  been re-cabling headphones with the finest copper wire there is, the Jena Labs Ultra-Wire.

We use this sensational regal wire in our top-end Copper Queen headphone cables. For incurable cable nuts or

those with high-end systems who demand the best, nothing comes close to the Copper Queen.

Nevertheless, many customers craved something more affordable, a higher value option than the Copper Queen,

but something that represented a significant and worth-while jump in performance over any of the stock Denon

cables. We knew it would have to be copper, of course, and come in a form factor suitable for headphone use.

But it would also have to meet Mark’s listening standards.

Almost 2.5 years later, and we had amassed boxes full of squirming, tangled sample wires from a wide array of

manufacturers from all over the world; some we tried, most we discarded. Initial listening results were discouraging,

but we kept at it and eventually we discovered and Mark tested and selected a particular candidate wire (and a

couple other contenders) that we believed met all our criteria in spades. Then it was off to be tested in our beta

process unlabelled along with 2 of the other promising candidates, where it indeed received the highest marks.

That means our new winning wire has been thoroughly vetted not just by Mark, but validated and confirmed in the field by customers and select close associates over a 12 month trial period.

Over this time, the quest to find “The ONE” among all the potential candidate wires became an inside joke between Mark and Steve, our cable artisan. Having finally selected a winner at last, the name stuck, and we decided to simply call this new creation our Copper ONE cable.

In the end, it’s not even the fanciest design or the one with the most bells and whistles or exotic components that won out. It is simply the one that sounds the best, and that’s putting your money where it counts.

We’re confident you’ll agree; in a value headphone wire, nothing compares to the ONE.

Copper One Headphone Cable Pricing

To provide you with maximum flexibility and options, at Lawton Audio, we price our lengths of cable/wire separately from the plug that you will then select to terminate your pair. Here you will see only the pricing for the cable/wire itself in the lengths we offer.  These prices include all installation/labor costs as well as the cost of the wire. Below this, you will find information and pricing on our deluxe plug options you will need to round off your cable choice. To determine the total price for your cable, match your desired cable length to your desired plug type and add.

Standard Single-Ended Cable Pricing

Most consumer audio components accept standard 1/4” (6.35mm) or 1/8” (3.5mm) plugs. Generally speaking, larger home-based systems with receivers or headphone amplifiers will require a 1/4” plug, while smaller portable devices and computers will need 1/8” plugs. A growing number of better quality headphone amps are also switching to single 4-pin “balanced” configuration. Below is Copper One cable pricing for all standard 1/4”, 1/8” single-ended devices, and for 4-pin single XLR only.

Professional Dual XLR Balanced Cable Pricing

Many professional audio systems and some of the finest hi-end headphone amplifiers accept dual XLR “balanced” connection. Below is the pricing for the balanced cable itself only; please see our section on deluxe audio plugs to choose your desired termination.

The Copper One: Affordable Excellence

For years, our customers have asked us for a more affordable alternative to our Jena Labs based Copper Queen headphone cables that would provide a significant jump in performance over the Denon stock cables (two of which are pretty good as stock cables go at least). As a certified cable nut, Lawton Audio proprietor, Mark, was never going to pick just any ol’ wire. But finding a good, value-packed cable that would meet our specifications and still pass Mark’s listening tests proved even harder than we thought. Well, after months of beta testing a myriad different wires with customers and select associates, we introduce our new Copper One headphone cable, affordable excellence for your Denon. Outstanding upgrade over all the Denon stock cables at an attractive price.

As a general rule, we love copper audio cables at Lawton Audio. The best examples of copper wires almost always excel at tone and timbre, providing an organic and natural sound that other materials often struggle to replicate. Our Copper One possesses a rich, full tone without excess wetness or sugary sweet highs, and is nicely balanced and coherent throughout. It reproduces those big dynamics very well, yet is also nicely resolving of fine detail without becoming overly analytical. The Copper One also synergizes extremely well with all 3 Denon models, subtly imbuing a mildly warm hint to the tone, a delicate touch that many audiophiles will really appreciate.

Customer tested and Mark approved, the Copper One is high value and high-performance that is hard to beat!
